I've really struggled with this blog during Lanier's first year, so I am determined in 2012 to make much more of an effort...for my mom if nothing else :). Lanier is now about 14 months old, babbling, and walking around the house like a crazy person. She gets into EVERYTHING and i mean everything. We haven't figured out a good way to child proof our cabinets because of the type of doors we have, so she has full access to those. In addition to the cabinets, I caught her eating out of the trash the other day, she rolled out toilet paper all over our bathroom, and also has started sneaking into the laundry room and turning off my dryer! I always wonder why the clothes are still soaking wet when I go in there. She is still a very happy baby, and her new thing is to look you straight in the eye while she babbles and points at everything...sometimes even double points. Her expressions are just so cute, but I'm sure i'm a little bias!
We were invited to a friends lake house this weekend and they told us we could bring Lanier which meant YES we can go! We have gotten a lot of invites like this where they say "If you can find someone to watch Lanier you should come" and if they only knew how difficult that really is! Anyways, we are not willing to give up on these fun times to hang out with friends, even though sleeping in the same room with your baby is not ideal. We had an interesting group because some people had kids, and others weren't even married yet, so you never know how "kid tolerant" people will be. I have to say that Lanier did great and was loving all the attention. I need to preface this by telling you that for the past 3 months or so, she has been beyond clingy with Daniel and I when it comes to being around strangers. This weekend, it was like she was a different child! She was begging people to pick her up and let her snuggle in their lap. It was actually pretty hysterical because she primarily targeted the single guys who looked so uncomfortable with this baby trying to crawl onto their lap.
Since my last post, we've also moved to a new house and are finally starting to get things together. The last of our furniture arrived today and our living room at least is starting to feel a bit more cozy. We are in a neighborhood with hundreds of kids, it's great to always hear them laughing and playing outside. I was driving out of our street the other day and two little boys had set up a lemonade stand. How cute is that!!! That tells you how mild our winter has been! They basically darted in front of my car so I would stop and buy some but I didn't even have a quarter, and I think they were charging like $2. Out of my price range anyways.
Now that I'm a mom, I definitely have stopped caring as much about the way I look. I recently have started exercising more which makes me feel better, but I literally cannot tell you the last time I put on makeup or dried my hair. I wear stretchy black workout pants and some sort of fleece or long sleeve t-shirt everyday. I always told myself that I would never be one of those mom's that just gives up on their appearance, but I am now starting to understand how easy it is to do! We know a lot of people that live in our neighborhood...to the point that I probably run into someone every time I go out for a walk. I am often ashamed at how greasy my hair is or the fact that I can't remember if I've even brushed it yet that day. I just have to say that maybe I am lazy, but it just isn't really worth making the effort :).
We have a busy week ahead of us! I am working at a showroom for the Apparel show this week. It's nice to have a break from mommy hood but it really does remind me of how lucky I am that I don't have to work everyday. Packing a bag of everything Lanier needs for the day to get her over to my sister in law's by 8:30 is a challenge, and I know some women do that everyday! Im so lucky that I get to stay home and be her mom full time, although I know I am going to appreciate the extra money I'll make at the show.
That's it for us! Hope you have a great week and I will post some pics/ videos soon.
Love,
Lauren
